Pre-Nursing

Course Description
The Pre-Nursing Program is intended for the academic student who is interested in the field of nursing on a collegiate level and has a serious commitment to the nursing profession.  The environment encompasses the entire campus of Montgomery Hospital through the added enrichment of the support departments where students will rotate though three primary areas; clinical, surgical and technical. This program is open to 11th and 12th grade students who meet the required prerequisites.

Course Content
The curriculum consists of the communication, cognitive, social-emotional and developmental skills necessary to obtain an entry level position in the health care field.  Continuing education on the post-secondary level is expected and re-enforced through the learning process. Students in Pre-Nursing are offered the opportunity of dual enrollment at Montgomery County Community College.

Topics of study include legal and ethical standards in health care, communications, body systems in wellness and disease, health care delivery systems, safety and emergency systems, infection control, language of medicine, principles of nutrition, and current issues in health care.
