Behind-the-Wheel
Drivers Licensing Exam
Central Montco Technical High School (CMTHS) provides a Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) approved Classroom and Behind-The-Wheel Drivers Training Program for all interested students. This program meets Pennsylvania Department of Education regulations and insurance industry requirements.
The Classroom instruction consists of 30 hours of instruction provided by certified teachers at the Technical High School. Classes are scheduled after school, evening and summer hours for students who are approaching their 16th birthday. Program registration can be accomplished by completing the Classroom registration form and sending it to Central Montco Technical High School with check enclosed (or cash in person). Students will be scheduled by Central Montco Technical High School based upon their session selection.

Central Montco Technical High School also provides Behind-The-Wheel training consisting of 6 hours of actual driving with instruction in dual-controlled cars provided by Central Montco Technical High School and Drivers Licensing Exam given during the 6th hour. Instruction is scheduled on an individual basis. All BTW lessons start and finish at CMTHS. We do not offer door to door service. All instructors are part-time PA certified and driving is according to their schedule. Eligible students must be 16 years or older, have obtained their learner’s permit or license. A registration form must be submitted with payment enclosed in order to schedule Behind-The-Wheel instruction. The school must be notified 24 hours prior to the cancellation or students will be charged for the time scheduled and will need to schedule additional hours above the original 6 hours at a $60.00 per hour fee.
Students who successfully complete the 30 hours Classroom instruction and the 6 hours Behind-The-Wheel will receive certificates. Both certificates are required by most insurance companies for a reduction in insurance premiums. The Pennsylvania Drivers Licensing Exam is given to full-time students who have successfully completed both the classroom and behind-the-wheel and have not graduated from high school. Proof of PDE approved 30 hour classroom training is required if student did not attend classroom instruction at Central Montco Technical High School.
Behind-The-Wheel Enrollees
The names of the Behind-The-Wheel enrollees who have their learner’s permit will be kept on file until you notify us and give the permission to begin the Behind-The-Wheel training. A registration form for enrollment and a schedule of classroom sessions is attached. If Colonial School District is closed due to inclement weather, Driver Education classes and Behind-The-Wheel will be cancelled at Central Montco Technical High School.
